In 2011, Alberta’s international exports of primary and processed agricultural and food products1 (agri-food) increased 19.0% to $8.1 billion, from $6.8 billion in 2010. High commodity prices, particularly for all major crops, contributed to the increase. Significant gains in value of exports were reported for wheat, canola seed, barley and oats. In contrast to crops, exports of live cattle and beef declined in 2011. Reduced supply of cattle due to decreasing herd size contributed to the decline.
